He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Ralph Owen and Montine Pethel Owen; his wife Diane Carter of Gainesville; his children, David Mark Owen (Michele) of Gainesville and Kathy Owen of Newnan; his grandchildren, Robert Norton, Jr. (Cathryn) of Denver, Colorado, Kate Norton Wren (Bo) of Newnan, Maggie Norton Tomberlin (Shawn) of Alpharetta, David M. Owen Jr. (Brittany) of Gainesville and Jennifer Owen Fuller (Mark) of Gainesville; his brother Dr. R. Glen Owen (Christie) of Augusta, GA; and his close friend Ben Reed of Gadsden, AL.. He was also cherished by 9 great grandchildren who adore their "Papa".
