He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Allen Hemphill, Sr. and Anna Marie Morelock Hemphill; his brother Raymond Hemphill; and his nephew Raymond Eugene Hemphill, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Betty Wright Hemphill; his children, Jimmy Hemphill of Milledgeville and Susan Hemphill of Charlotte, NC; his granddaughters, Catherine Burke (Philip) of Charolette, NC and Jamie Hemphill Clark (Chad) of Athens; and his great grandchildren, Eli Clark and Mia Clark of Athens, GA..
The family is requesting that, in lieu of flowers or gifts, donations be made to Cure Sanfilippo Foundation in honor of Walter's great-grandson, Eli Hemphill Clark, who has Sanfilippo Syndrome. Cure Sanfilippo Foundation is a registered 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization that is leading the fight to find a first-ever treatment for Sanfilippo Syndrome.
