He was predeceased by: his parents, William 'Buddy' and Florene Phifer (Tubbs). He is survived by: his wife Janice Chappell; his grandchildren, Steve Heninger, Amanda, Amy Phifer, Eric, Frank Ellis and Lori; and also, Lawrence, Vickie Chappell, Pat Finn, Mack and Christine Chappell.
In lieu of flowers, he asked that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Begin Again Equine Shelter (Ellerslie, Georgia).
