He was predeceased by: his wife Sarah Kohr Bechtel; and his siblings, Ken Bechtel, Suzie Bechtel and Katherine Bechtel. He is survived by: his children, Joseph Bechtel (Sheila), Timothy L. Bechtel, Sr. (Alesia) and Michelle Francis (Randy); his brothers, Joseph "Joe" Bechtel, Ed Bechtel, Arthur "Ook" Bechtel and Jeff Bechtel; and his aunt Ethel Stevens (Mac).

A memorial service was held on Friday, November 1st 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Grace Baptist Church (3151 Peach Pkwy, Fort Valley, GA 31030).
