He was know to family and friends as "Lee" or Willie". A carpenter by trade, he was also an avid fisherman and a talented artist. He was well loved by everyone, as he had a quick wit. He loved to laugh and to make others laugh. He was preceded in death by his father, Emmitt Mathews, his sister Jeannie (Tommy) Self and a baby brother. Survivors include his mother, Jean Baugh, sisters Laurie (Hubert) Gilbert and Lisa (John) Greene, brother David Mathews, ex-wife Laurel Mathews, daughter Amanda Mathews, grandson Gage Hovey, nieces Adrian Dawson, Heather (Joel) Brodnax, Meredith Greene, and Hannah Greene, grand niece Natalie Dawson, grand nephew Reeve Brodnax, faithful animal companions Lola the dog and Tripod the cat, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. A memorial service will be held in his honor at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday July 14, 2018 at Antioch Baptist Church at 2269 Yatesville-Barnesville Rd. in Yatesville, Ga.
