He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel Jackson Atkinson and Ruth Ann Bennett Atkinson; and his wife Diane Whatley Atkinson. He is survived by: his children, Lamar Atkinson (Kimberly) of Temple, Jennifer Johnson (Shawn) of Warrenton, Kellie Rustemeyer (Jaik) of Heyworth, Rhonda Thomas (Alan) of Locust Grove and Scott Gasaway (Charity) of Griffin; and his siblings, Cheryl Whatley (Randy) of Forsyth, Linda Warren of Forsyth and Ralph Atkinson (Vanessa). He is also survived by eight grandchildren.
