He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Clancy Markert; his son Phillip Jewett Markert Jr.; his daughter-in-law Bessie Pearl Markert; his daughter Jennifer Markert Eichenberger; his son-in-law Dr. Theron Davis Eichenberger; his grandchildren, Carter William Markert, Katherine Anne Markert, Ashley Lauren Markert, Carolyn Winter Eichenberger, Allison Helen Eichenberger and Charlotte Marie Eichenberger; and his brothers, Fred C. Markert (Freda Wright Markert) and E. Braxton Markert.
