He was predeceased by: his parents, James Edwin "Ed" and Era Belle Hendley Clanton; and his siblings, Russell Clanton, George Clanton and Sue Wilson.

He is survived by: his wife Louise Mullinax Clanton of Fairmount, GA; his children, Joshua Clanton of Hawthorn, FL, Matthew (Kimberly Clanton), Casey (Tammy Childers), Steven Childers of Jasper, GA, Amanda (Jonathan Long), Niles Mesnard of Cincinnati, OH and Nicole Rayner of Hawthorn, FL; his sister Robbie Corey of Lake Park, GA; his aunt Ruby Greene of Nashville, GA; and his mother-in-law Evelyn Mullinax of Fairmount, GA. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
