He was predeceased by: his parents, B. D. Yates and Billie Sue Yates. He is survived by: his children, Christa Kessinger of Palmetto, Heather Wingo of Villa Rica, Ashley Yates of Spartanburg, SC and Chad Yates of Fairburn; his brother Jerry Yates (Karen) of Newnan; and his close friend Lisa Lashley.
