He was predeceased by: his parents, Goodman Hugh Porter and Oda Porter; his son Lamar Jackson Porter; and his stepson Kenneth Paul Snow. He is survived by: his daughters, Joyce Lynn Hewatt (Jerry) of Monroe and Marsha Nell Snipes (David) of Madison; his stepson Glenn Snow (Glenda) of Tifton; and his brothers, Bobby Chapman of Cedartown and Travis Chapman of Athens, AL. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
