He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph J. Sumner and Lillian Kendrick Sumner; and his brother James Eulyn Sumner. He is survived by: his wife Barbara Pearson Sumner of Enigma; his daughter Liz; his son-in-law Greg Stone of Tifton; his grandchildren, Eric Stone, Thomas Patrick Stone and Katie Stone; his sister Peggie; and his brother-in-law Bentley Barrentine of Enigma.
