He was predeceased by: his father Andy F. Gates; his wife Betty Keener Gates; his son Tommy Gates; and his grandson Kevin Bryant. He is survived by: his daughter Jody Henry of Ellijay; his sister Alice Davis of Ellijay; his grandchildren, Jarrod Holmes, Neil Gary and Elise Carrell; his niece Debbie White; and his caregiver Mandy Nelson. He is also survived by 9 great grandchildren.
