He was predeceased by: his parents, John Thomas Powell and Willie Young Powell; his former wife Wilda Lee Powell; his daughter Mary Virginia Powell Page; and his stepdaughter Maria Goodman.

He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Powell of Ellaville; and his stepsons, Richard McLemore (Sherry) of Ellaville and Phillip McLemore of Americus. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
