He is survived by: his wife Tammy Thompson of Eastman, Georgia; his children, Michael Shaine Thompson of Warner Robins, Georgia, Shannon Autumn Thompson of Eastman and Brandy Lynn Thompson of Perry, Georgia; his siblings, Tommy Thompson of Warner Robins, Georgia, Jackie Burnett of Warner Robins and Betty Waldrop (James) of Eatonton, Georgia.; and his grandchild Ellie Thompson.

“So sorry to hear of Johnny's passing. As a pack of kids and cousins about the same age, we all played together many times when the Thompson family visited us in Empire before the family moved to Warner Robbins. I remember Johnny and Tommy learning to repair televisions watching their Dad in their garage at home in Warner Robbins. I am sorry for the loss to all the family. I wish I had spent more time staying in touch with Johnny over the years. I know he will be missed. Ed Ward”
