He was predeceased by: his parents, Miles Clay-Owen and Ruby Austin Clay-Owen; and his siblings, Ennis, Roy, Frank, Nathaniel, John, Charlie Clay, Andrew Height, Mary Whithead, Martha Grimes, Mattie Pearl Dixon, Pinkie Lou Smith, Jewel Clay, Nora Clay, Hattie Clark and Dora Mae Summrall.
He is survived by: his wife Robbie Mae McKinnon-Clay; his daughters, Veronica Montford (Kenneth), Phyllis Cross (Allen Jr.) and Lisa Bell; his brother Amos Clay (Gloria) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.; his grandchildren, April Clay, Mario Clay, Phillip Bell, Jr., Tevin Clay, Brittnie Darrisaw and Philisa Bell; his great grandchildren, Jeremiah McClendon, Jamia McClendon, A'mari Bell, Jamorie Clay, Landen Atkins, Laci Atkins, Loghan Atkins, Alesia Bell, Terrell Cannon and Joe Payne, Jr.; his nieces and nephews, Mattie Ann Dixon-Duckworth, Samantha Clay Williams, Frankie Dixon and Willie James Clay; his cousin Tyrondy Jones; and also Joseph Sneed (Francis). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins.
