He was predeceased by: his parents, Carlton "Bill" and Erma Giersch Hortman; his stepmother Ann King Hortman; his stepsister Carolyn King Land; and his brother-in-law Tommy Lavender.
He is survived by: his wife Janice Hortman of Dry Branch; his children, Christopher Hortman of Dry Branch and Michelle Cody; his son-in-law Jeff Cody of Griffin, Georgia; his grandchildren, Haley Hortman of Jacksonville and Levi Barron of Jeffersonville; his stepsiblings, Buddy King (Faye), Pat Lee and Harriet Haley; his siblings-in-law, Joey Brantley, Debra Lavender and Glynn Brantley (Denise); his stepgrandchildren, Ashley Seegar (Leo) of LaGrange, Candice Brady and Blake Cody of Locust Grove, Georgia; and his stepgreat-grandchildren, Zack, Trent Seegar and Madisyn Brady.
