He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph E. Owens and Victoria Poole Owens. He is survived by: his wife Shelia R. Owens; his daughter Sabrina Brooks (Gregg); his grandchildren, Jessica Brooks and Gregg Brooks, Jr. (Kristianna); and his siblings, Bobby Owens, James Owens (Dianna), Vonnette Vail (Jerry) and Shirley Brown.
