He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Ennis Smith and Helen Estelle Nantz Smith; and his siblings, Gerald Smith and Patricia Miller. He is survived by: his wife Toby Smith; his sons, Brian Smith (Gretchen) of Birmingham, AL, Jason Smith (Kim) of Cornelia, GA and Joey Smith, Jr. (Christy) of Huntsville, AL; and his grandchildren, Ashton Wylie (Trevor), Mason Smith, Rachel Smith, Ava Smith, Andrew Smith, Thomas Smith and James Smith.
Visitation was held on Saturday, April 5th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Sims Funeral Home (201 N Peterson Ave, Douglas, GA 31533). A memorial service was held on Sunday, April 6th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church (124 N Gaskin Ave, Douglas, GA 31533).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joey's name to the Wiregrass Artist Guild of Douglas, GA.
