He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Thompson and Nannie Mae Ford Thompson. He is survived by: his wife Carol Thompson of Doerun; his children, Lana Kay Conner (Homer) of Pitts, GA., Joey Wade Thompson (Emily) of Sumner, Brenda Diane Green (Dennis) of Virginia and Ricky Thompson (Dawn) of Doerun; his grandchildren, Hal Mullis, Chad Mullis, James Creel, Jeremy Thompson, Brandi Stodola, Leah Simpson, Denny Green, Chris Hendry, Kaleigh Whitman, Bristal Miller, Jaiden Thompson, April Young and Russ Young (Michelle); and his siblings, Owen Turner Thompson of Kentucky and Annie Rae Thompson. He is also survived by 17 great grandchildren.
