He was predeceased by: his parents, Larry Gilbert and Retha Gilbert; his stepfather Alvie Ray Clemons; and his son Chuck Gilbert. He is survived by: his wife Annie Gilbert of Dawsonville; his children, Ashley Smith (Marcus) of Sugar Hill, Michael Gilbert of Dawsonville, Allison Boynton (Patrick) of Gainesville and Abbigail Gilbert of Dawsonville; his siblings, Chris Gilbert and Penny Wilson (Tim) of Big Canoe; his stepbrother Scotty Clemons (Betty) of Cumming; and his daughter-in-law Deidra Scales (Kayla Gilbert) of Cumming.

Visitation was held on Sunday, March 9th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Monday, March 10th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Bearden Funeral Home (334 Hwy 53, Dawsonville, GA 30534). A funeral service was held on Monday, March 10th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel (334 Hwy 53, Dawsonville, GA 30534).

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to help offset final expenses.
