She was predeceased by: her parents, James Avery and Ruth Berry Kendall; her husband Cecil Lingerfelt; and her siblings, Johnny, Paul, DeVaughn, Bobby, Lamar, Buddy, Elden, LaVerne, Marie, Thelma and Bernice.
She is survived by: her children, Rick Lingerfelt of Oklahoma City, Elaine Lewis (Donnie) of Canton and Georgia; her granddaughters, Amanda Stoddard (Erik) of Woodstock and Katherine Bragg (Billy) of Woodstock; her great grandchildren, Eli Stoddard, Willa Bragg, Edwin Stoddard and Poppy Bragg; and her sisters-in-law, Martha Kendall, Betty Kendall, Ruby Kendall and Sherry Kendall. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that sympathy donations be made in Melva's name to Wreaths Across America, the American Cancer Society, or your local humane society.
