He was predeceased by: his former wives, Mildred Essex and Louise Essex; and his grandson Brandon Hutcheson. He is survived by: his wife Annie Essex of Darien; his children, Eugene Essex, Jr. of Darien, James DeLaughter (Sarah) of Micanopy, FL, Angela Hayman (Michael) of Murrayville and Tammy Swindell (Justin) of Darien; his grandchildren, Daniel Essex, Dixie Swindell, Mason Swindell, Ryan Fries, Brendon Fries, Morgan Gayle, DeWhite Gayle and Hunter Gayle (April); and his great grandchildren, Kairi and Baron. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
