He was predeceased by: his father Joe Wilbur Thompson; and his brother Tim Thompson. He is survived by: his mother Juanita Kennedy Thompson of Hartwell; his children, Joseph Thompson (Emmalee) of Comer, Levi Thompson (Myranda) of Danielsville and Nikki Hartrum (Seth) of Danielsville; his siblings, Mike Thompson (Anne) of Hartwell, David Thompson (Sandra) of Hartwell, Chris Thompson of Hartwell and Cindy Jones of Hartwell; and his grandchildren, Braxton Brock, Hudson Thompson and Charlie Thompson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Flat Shoals Baptist Church, 2999 Bowersville Hwy, Bowersville, GA 30516.
