He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Lee Phillips and Ethel Darnell Phillips; his wife Lidy Orene Garrett Phillips; his grandsons, Marcus Phillips and Dwayne Phillips; and his siblings, Calvin Rufus Phillips, Marvin Phillips, Grover Lee Phillips, Sr., Bertha Mae Worley and Louise Christian.

He is survived by: his son Donald T. Phillips; his daughter-in-law Rhonda Phillips of Carnesville, GA; his daughter Patricia "Pat"; his son-in-law Walton Hill of Danielsville; and his siblings, Herbert "Billy" Phillips of Athens, GA and Betty Joyce Peeples of Blairsville, GA. He is also survived by four grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and twelve great-great grandchildren.
