He is survived by: his children, Elizabeth Michel Bates of Dalton, GA, John Morris Bates, Jr. (Laura Bates) of Chevy Chase, MD and Allison Bates McConaughey (Warner McConaughey) of Atlanta, GA; and his grandchildren, Zadie, Wilson, Lucy McConaughey of Atlanta, Keelin and John Bates of Chevy Chase, MD..
Visitation was held on Wednesday, October 16th 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at 510 S Tibbs Rd, Dalton, GA 30720. A memorial service was held on Wednesday, October 16th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
