He was predeceased by: his parents, John Morgan Spence and Edna McCarley Spence; and his siblings, John Morgan Spence, Jean Spence Nunn and Mary Spence Hughes.
He is survived by: his children, Janice Spence Wilmot and James W. "Bill" Spence (Teresa Rollins); and his sisters, Lena Spence and Sara Spence Slagle. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
