He was predeceased by: his parents, James Ralph and Geneva Henry Bates; his siblings, Syble Christine Bates Land, Geneva "Sis" Bates, Margaret Kellams, Betty Chastain, Dorothy Harris, James, Jimmie Steven, Junior, Kenneth, Charles and Ricky Bates; and his stepdaughter Angels Henderson Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Melba Jeanette Bates; his stepson Samuel Keeler of Dalton, GA; and his brothers, Ronnie Bates of Chatsworth, GA and Randy (Betty Bates). He is also survived by four grandchildren, four grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, January 22nd 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Ponders Funeral Home - Dalton (138 Melrose Dr, Dalton, GA 30721). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 22nd 2025 at 4:00 PM at the same location.
