He was predeceased by: his parents, Jessie Burgess and Elizabeth Green Burgess; his wife Julia Diane Burgess; his children, Terry Ray Burgess, Robert Burgess, Connie Burgess, Tammy Hudson and Laura Anette Burgess; his siblings, Herbert "Buck" Burgess, Willie Blair, Jewel Hullender and Dessie Houlk; and his grandchildren, Dustan Hogsed and Amanda Hogsed.
He is survived by: his children, Cindy (Grady Stokes), Sharon Burgess of Dalton, GA, Lisa (Mike Hogsed), Tony Cook and Lamar Cook of Rocky Face, GA; and his brother Verbon Burgess of Cleveland, TN. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
