He was predeceased by: his parents, Tom Austin and Bertha Austin; and his siblings, Rogers, James, Jack Austin, Helen Scroggs, Asenath Payne, Ruth McMillian, Linda Waits and Betty Fouts.
He is survived by: his wife Lee Hightower Austin of Dallas; his stepdaughter Amanda Cooper McFerrin (Stephen) of Acworth; his grandchildren, Tyler Wood, Spencer Wood, Levi Paul Cooper, Emily Brock (Dustin) and Daniel Cooper; and his siblings, Jerry Austin (Jeanne) of Acworth and Janey Alexander (Glenn) of Bartlett, TN. He is also survived by 6 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that contributions and donations be made, in Joe's memory, to Mars Hill Presbyterian Church.
