She was predeceased by: her parents, A. J. Taylor and Eva Taylor of Cuthbert, Georgia.; and her husband Sterlin Shorter. She is survived by: her children, Tyrone Taylor-Shorter, Shane Armstrong, Nicole Armstrong, Shaun Armstrong and Sterlin Shorter Jr. (Ceretta); her brother Amos Beckett of Charlotte, NC; her niece Vickie Calloway of Cuthbert, GA; her cousin Daniece Johnson of Cuthbert, GA; her grandchildren, Demont, Ayannis, Ahriyen, Denardo, Shayne Jr., Sirena, Lashanna, Savannah, Bryce, Sarah, Shaun Jr., Eric, Jada and Tristen; her great grandchildren, Dana Johnson, Donny Johnson, Darnell Johnson, Eric Brown, Derrell Johnson and Trent Vaughn; her grandchildren, Rosalia Kennedy, Alisha Fields and Jean King; and her close friend Mae Taylor. She is also survived by aunts, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, November 23rd 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Friendship Baptist Church (57 College St, Cuthbert, GA 39840).
Elvira's impact extended far beyond the classroom, as she made significant contributions to her community as she played a pivotal role in the planning and establishment of Taylor's Park, a community space located behind her home.
