He was predeceased by: his parents, Jim Poteet and Flora Poteet; his son George Edward Poteet (Pete); his brother Charles Poteet; and his half-brothers, Boyd Hansird, Herschel Hansird and W. A. Hansird.
He is survived by: his wife Bonnie Mantooth Poteet; his daughters, Dianne (Lester Moore), Kathy (Gary Patterson), Sheila (Craig Bartley) and Donna (Darryl Farmer); and his sister Betty Poteet Byrd of Ringgold. He is also survived by five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren along with nieces and nephews.
