He is survived by: his wife Betty Gaither; his son Spurgean L. Gaither; and his grandchildren, Chrishaye, Anecia, Markel, Sequoyah, Ambria and Spurgeon, Jr.. He is also survived by great grandchildren other relatives and friends.
