He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Gerrells and Bessie Lou Pilgrim Gerrells; and his brothers, Billy Gerrells and Ray Gerrells. He is survived by: his siblings, Richard Gerrells of Cleveland, Ed Gerrells of Tazewell, Tennessee, Lillie Ash of Mt. Airy, Molly (Jerry Johnson) and Sara (Scott Payne). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
