Jerry Dean Prather Obituary

Jerry Prather, 71 of Cordele, passed away Monday, November 14, 2022 at his residence. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 17, 2022 at Sunnyside Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at Rainey Family Funeral Services. Jerry was born in Cordele and was the son of the late James Eskin Prather and Mildred Louise Sapp Prather. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Bobby Prather, Frank Prather and Tommy Prather, and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Prather. Jerry worked at Harris Group for over 40 years where he was the Pipe Shop Supervisor. Jerry loved his Lord and reading and studying his Bible was very important to him. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church and attended there as long as his health permitted. He was a talented carpenter, building beautiful porches for his house, and a mechanic. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed keeping his beautiful yard full of flowers, especially roses. Most of all he loved his family, especially his grandchildren, always wanting the best for them. Jerry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Susan 'Susie Smith Prather of Cordele; two children, Kevin (Tiffiney) Prather of Cordele and Lisa (Chris) Britt of Jacksonville, FL; a sister Florence Noles of Tennessee; and eight grandchildren, Cody Prather, Austin Kale Clark, John Prather, Brittiney Goss, Tyler Prather, Kayleigh Britt, Carson Britt and Kinsley Britt and his best buddy and companion, Sammy.
