He was predeceased by: his mother Addie Mae Sims; and his brother Christopher Sims. He is survived by: his father George Arthur Sims, Sr. of Plains, Georgia; his wife Angela M. Sims of Americus, Georgia; his daughters, Angelica Sims and Brittany Sims of Americus, Georgia; his stepson Christopher Adam Layfield of Richmond Hill, Georgia; his grandchildren, Noah Aiden Waters, Delaila Hope Bridges and Delani Faith Bridges; his siblings, Leeann Sims of Plains, Diane Ross (Thomas), Patricia Tookes (Raymond) of Americus, Miriam Laster of Atlanta, Georgia and Kelvin Sims of Plains, Georgia; his sister-in-law Vertrescia Sims; his uncles, Sam Sims and Eugene Sims of Americus; his aunt Annie O. Durham of Plains, Georgia; and his cousins, Ervin Daniels and Gussie Dice. He is also survived by other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
