He was predeceased by: his parents, John F. Burns and Mary 'Annice Burns; his siblings, Olive Larue Burns Turner and John Frank Burns, Sr.; and his former wife Rebecca Ann 'Becky White.
He is survived by: his son Joel D.; his daughter-in-law Gloria Burns; his son Darrell E. Burns; and his wife Becky. He is also survived by several grandchildren and one great- granddaughter.
He served as a member and Vice President of Georgia Kiwanis Memorial Foundation and was awarded Kiwanis Life and plaque.
