He was predeceased by: his wife Sylvia Jane Ellington Holmes; his parents, Ernest Dexter and Bess McDonald Holmes; and his sister Betty Jane Holmes Kirkpatrick. He is survived by: his children, Steven Matthew Holmes, Sally Janel Holmes Allen (Scott Morgan Allen) and Suzanne Marie Holmes Funk; his grandchildren, Jordan Marie Holmes, Laurel Jane Holmes Esposito, Sara Marie Funk, Summer Jane Funk and Owen Morgan Allen; and his sister Edith Holmes Bowie.
Visitation was held on Thursday, January 16th 2025 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at the Green Meadow Memorial Gardens (699 American Legion Rd NE, Conyers, GA 30012). A funeral service was held on Thursday, January 16th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the East View Cemetery (1127 Eastview Rd NE, Conyers, GA 30012).
