He was predeceased by: his wife Martha Ann Cantrell Buffington; and his children, Candace Minish, Michael Nations and Scot Damroze. He is survived by: his daughters, Christina Harper of Commerce, Melissa Buffington of Macon and Tammie Damroze of Toccoa; and his sister Joan. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, two nieces, and two nephews.
