He was predeceased by: his parents, Joel Shumate, Sr. and Jeanie Herring Clouatre; his brother Roger Tanton; and his nephew Joel Shumate. He is survived by: his uncle Ray Vasquez; his daughters, Brandi Strickland (Joseph Collins), Amanda Spear, Candice Spear and Traci Shumate; his grandchildren, Wyatt Strickland, Destiny Smith, Landon Mathis, Kaleb Dykes, Elijah Clayberger, Justice Spear, Raelyn Maloy, Rylee Maloy, Joey Collins, John Collins, Austin Delong, Tristen Suggs, Logan Suggs and Kasler Dawson; his former wife Tami Shumate; and also, Brian Shumate (Amy), Joel Shumate, Van Shumate, Lashawn Shumate and Eddie Dalton.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, February 22nd 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel (613 14th St, Phenix City, AL 36867).
