He was predeceased by: his parents, Veola Nelms and George Cochran; his wife Curvie; his brother Otis Nelms; his nephew Otis Nelms, Jr. (Felicia Nelms-Wright); and his godson Otis Griggs.

He is survived by: his siblings, John "Bobby" Baker (Evelyn), Marcia Nelms, Cynthia Nelms, Marketia White and Sharika White; and his great-nephew Zakai Isaac. He is also survived by god children, the Griggs and a host of other relatives and friends.
