He was predeceased by: his siblings, Ruth Emma Gooding Brinson, William Henry "Bill" Gooding and Lewis Benjamin "Sam" Gooding; and his friend Nina Hamm. He is survived by: his children, John B. Gooding Jr. of Savannah and Brenda G. Cowart (James B. "Jim"). He is also survived by two step-grandchildren and two step-great- grandchildren as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and great friends.
