He was predeceased by: his parents, Lewis Benson Brooks III and Juanita Benton Brooks. He is survived by: his wife Janice Gail Brooks; his sons, Jeffery Dwayne Brooks (Kathy), Kenneth William Brooks (Tonya) and Robert Benson Brooks; his sister Sheryl Brooks Fletcher; his grandchildren, Anthony, Matt (Stephanie), Joseph and Devon Brooks; his great grandchildren, Dakota and Henry Brooks; and his aunt Elaine Beck. He is also survived by two nephews and one niece.
