He was predeceased by: his parents, William Marshal and Helen Mae Bright Ervine; and his brothers, William "Bill" Ervine, Jerry Ervine and Paul Ervine.
He is survived by: his daughter Stephanie Sims; his grandchildren, Vicky Hope Sims, James Edward Sims, III and Kaleigh Marie Sims; and his great grandchild Aiden Sims.
