He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Sumner and Helen Sumner; and his brother Richard Sumner. He is survived by: his wife Vicki Sumner of Chatsworth; his children, Michelle (Mark Overton), Stephanie Martin of Calhoun, Toynie Robinson of Tunnel Hill, Jennifer (Conrad Gregory) and Phillip Lamar Sumner, Jr. of Chatsworth; his siblings, Betty Summerville of Dalton, Martha Gregory of Calhoun, Carolyn (Jack McCutchen), Mary Sumner (Barbara Sumner), Glenda (Sam Whisenant) and Charlie; and his sister-in-law Carol Sumner of Dalton. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
