He was predeceased by: his parents, John W. Dempsey and Bertha Williams Dempsey; and his sister Myrtice Dempsey Whigham. He is survived by: his wife Bertie Sue Pinnell Dempsey; his children, Selina Zieg (Eric) of Kathleen, Cindy West (Mike) of Byron and James Alex Dempsey (Melanie) of Cochran; and his siblings, Curtis Dempsey, John L. Dempsey (Betty), David Dempsey (Marolyn), Betty Braswell (Billy), Fay Rutherford and Judy Cabrera (Orlando). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and three step-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
