She was predeceased by: her parents, Irvin Walter Mercer and Ava Eloise Mercer; her husband Malcolm Owen; her children, Darrell and Angela Joyner; her siblings, Margaret, Carlotta, Cacelia and Walter Mercer; and her grandson Brent D. Moore, Jr..
She is survived by: her children, Benjie Steed (Sherri), Terri Mock (David), Bruce Steed (Lisa) and Byron Steed; her brother Austin Mercer (Beverly); her great grandchild Braxton; and her close friends, Mary Myrick and Sherrie Carmichael. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren.
