He was predeceased by: his parents, Floyd Nelms and Ethel Rogers Nelms. He is survived by: his wife Deborhy Nelms; his sons, James Nelms and David Nelms; his grandchildren, Matthew, Storm Nelms, Halie Nelms, Patrick Nelms and James Dean Nelms; his great grandchildren, Kabie, John Wayne, Zane, Zoe, Carter, Kennedy and Oakland; his sisters, Iva Lee Lovell and Glenda; and his brother-in-law Tim Kinsey.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 18th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home (118 N Brooks St, Cleveland, GA 30528). A funeral service was held on Thursday, September 19th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
