He is survived by: his wife Mary Ellen Prater; his daughters, Dr. Barbara Rowan (James Rowan) and Michelle Prater; his granddaughter Amanda Rowan; his granddaughter-in-law Kadyn Harper; and his brothers, Robert Wade (Lolita) and Tom Wade (Pam).

The family asks in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Trinity United Methodist Church in Memory of Jim.
