She was predeceased by: her parents, Joe Robert Hicks and Samantha Ridley Hicks; her husband James Fred Bowers; and her siblings, Leonard Hicks, Leamond Hicks, Ada Hicks, Lavada Welborn, Elvira Owens, Volena Hughes and Velzie Rogers.
She is survived by: her daughters, JoElla Bowers Wilson (Steve) of Clayton and Regina Bowers Harden (Ronnie) of Clayton; her grandchildren, Steven Wilson, Shawn Wilson, Candice Hillier and Stephanie Branch; and her great grandchildren, Bailey Rogers, Cade Rogers, Lydia Connell, Stetson Branch, Wyatt Wilson, Phelan Wilson, Blaze Wilson and Karrigan Wilson.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Alvena's memory to the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
