He was predeceased by: his parents, Edna Mitchell and John Burton Mitchell; his wife Chloe Jean Perry Mitchell; his son John Keith Mitchell; his daughter-in-law Brenda DeLoach Mitchell; and his grandson Brandon Mitchell.
He is survived by: his children, Charles Bryan Mitchell (Sandra) of Claxton, George Edward "Ed" of Cummings, Mona Angeline Rushing (Jeffrey) of Claxton and Gina Mitchell Hodges (Brian) of Claxton; his sister Betty Mitchell Hostetler (Don); his grandchildren, Kimberly Griffin, Peter Griffin, Jonathan Mitchell (Heather), Zach Evans (Hilary), John Lehman Rushing (Amber), Reese Mitchell, Sydney Mitchell and Caleb Hodges; and his great grandchildren, Emlynn Rushing and Corbin Keith Mitchell. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
